Steel
Guitar & Dobro Lessons
I’ve been playing steel guitar
for more than 4 decades. (Yes, I am old! But feel, think and act young…..so
there!) For many years I would not consider teaching because I thought
I would not have the patience. Now as I settle in to my “golden
years” I realize I can contribute to the continuation of steel guitar
music by helping those that show an interest and desire to learn. I now
consider teaching to be one of my most important contributions to the
steel guitar community.
My teaching curriculum is centered on the individual player. All lessons
are conducted as a one-on-one interaction in my studio in Acworth, Ga.
The first lesson is normally an assessment of a player's ability, and
can cover the needs of a student at any level. I feel my approach is simple,
logical, and presented in the proper sequence to systematically build
your playing ability and music theory skills.
I strive to help each student to reach his/her goal whether it is to become
a successful professional player or just become comfortable playing in
a local social jam or gathering. The enjoyment of music can be an emotional
satisfaction that only can be understood by creating the music. My personal
success is achieved by having many students go on to play professionally.
For students not bound for the stage or desiring to play out publicly,
seeing their knowledge and technique improve over time is gratifying;
but most importantly, their personal satisfaction playing their chosen
instrument is greatly enhanced. I will help my students achieve their
personal goals with the pedal steel, lap steel, or dobro guitar through
thoughtful teaching based on my years of real-world experience.
My ultimate objective is to give students
an understanding of music - and their instrument- so that they can eventually
discover how to learn most things on their own.
